1969 was a landmark year for Hot Wheels, introducing the exciting Grand Prix Series and some of the most realistic race car castings of the Redline era. Among them was the Brabham Repco F1, a beautifully detailed tribute to one of Formula One’s most successful championship-winning machines.
Released in 1969 as part of Hot Wheels’ new Grand Prix Series, the Brabham Repco was one of four open-wheel race cars introduced that year. The casting was based on the real Brabham-Repco BT24, designed by legendary racing team founders Jack Brabham and Ron Tauranac.
The full-size BT24 made racing history, carrying Jack Brabham to the Formula One World Championship in 1966. The design proved its dominance again in 1967 when Denny Hulme captured the championship behind the wheel of a Brabham.
The Hot Wheels version is remarkably accurate, featuring an open cockpit, blue-tinted windscreen, and detailed chromed plastic engine with twin tailpipes. Like the other Grand Prix cars, it captured the look and spirit of the real race car exceptionally well.
A fun collecting fact: the Brabham Repco was produced exclusively in Hong Kong, making it unique among many Redline castings that were manufactured in both Hong Kong and the United States.
