Casting Details

Type:Highlighted Casting

The Silhouette is one of the true legends of the Redline era. As one of the Original 16 Hot Wheels released in 1968, it remains one of the most recognizable and beloved castings ever produced. Designed by Harry Bradley, the Silhouette was inspired by a real custom show car built by legendary car builder Bill Cushenberry in 1962. Ford Motor Company was so impressed with the futuristic design that they purchased the original car and featured it in their Ford Custom Car Caravan traveling road show.

One of the most unique features of the Hot Wheels Silhouette is its clear bubble canopy, allowing collectors to see the detailed interior. The sleek, low-slung body and exposed engine gave it a true show car appearance that perfectly captured the imagination of the late 1960s custom car scene. The casting remained popular throughout the Redline years and is still considered a cornerstone of many collections today.

This example showcases why the Silhouette has remained a fan favorite for nearly six decades. A true Hot Wheels icon that helped launch the brand and continues to be one of the most sought-after models from the Redline era.
