1970- The Red Baron

brandonnielsen

The Red Baron. This little powerhouse first hit the scene in 1970, inspired by the infamous WWI German fighter plane of the same name. With its sleek metallic red body, open cockpit, and signature spiked helmet, it’s no surprise the Red Baron quickly became a fan favorite!

The Red Baron traces its origins back to Tom Daniel’s 1970 plastic model kit design, one of six of his creations featured in the Hot Wheels lineup.

Unlike the life-sized show car, the Hot Wheels version stays true to the original model kit, complete with a six-cylinder German-style engine. The Red Baron stands out as one of the most common and beloved redline Hot Wheels cars.

Originally released in 1970, it was retooled and reissued twice during the redline era and continued into the blackwall era. The 1970 version is easily recognized by the sharp point on the helmet and capped wheels, making it a favorite among collectors.
