Casting Details

Type:Highlighted Casting

The T42 is one of the most unusual Redlines Mattel ever produced! Designed by Larry Wood and released in 1971, it’s based on the Ford Model T Runabout — but with a wild twist.

Originally dubbed “Which Way,” the T42’s yin-yang design cleverly marries two souped-up Model T front ends, creating a car that looks like it could drive in either direction. A die-cast question mark “?” was even added to the doors to play up the theme.

Produced only in Hong Kong, the T42 came in a variety of Spectraflame colors including blue, green, red, and magenta — with magenta being especially tough to find in nice condition. It features a brown interior, and detailed metal base, all sitting on those classic Redline wheels.

A bold, imaginative casting that perfectly captures the fun and creativity of the early Hot Wheels era!
