Casting Details
The 1969 Hot Wheels Police Cruiser is one of the more unique Redlines from the second year of Hot Wheels. Modeled after the full-size Plymouth Fury police cars of the era, this U.S.-made casting was designed by Ira Gilford.
The Police Cruiser is also an important piece of Hot Wheels history. The “Police” lettering and shield were among the earliest tampo-style graphics used by Mattel, making this casting notable beyond its police-car theme. It features a white enamel body, black detailing, a red roof light and the classic Redline wheels.
There are also some interesting variations, including solid or translucent red roof lights and an early version with black fenders, hood and trunk. The same basic casting returned in 1970 as the Fire Chief Cruiser.
A great example of how Hot Wheels captured the look and attitude of the late ’60s, right down to the police cruiser.
