1968- Custom Mustang

One of the true icon cars of all time, the Ford Mustang was first introduced in 1964 and quickly became one of the most recognizable American muscle cars ever built. Hot Wheels based the Custom Mustang casting on the 1967 Mustang Fastback, a style made even more legendary by Steve McQueen and the movie Bullitt.

The Custom Mustang was part of the original “Sweet 16” lineup released by Mattel in 1968, making it one of the very first Hot Wheels ever produced. It shared the spotlight with other early custom muscle car castings like the Camaro, Cougar, and Barracuda during the beginning of the Redline era.

One fun detail about the Custom Mustang is the exposed engine and chopped custom styling that gave it that true late-1960s hot rod look. The Copper color is especially sharp in Spectraflame and really pops with the classic Redline wheels. Always exciting adding another original Mustang to the collection!
