Type:Highlighted Casting

Another great Redline— this is a 1968 Hot Wheels Redline Custom Cougar in olive with a black roof and tan interior. The Custom Cougar was based on the 1967 Mercury Cougar two-door coupe and was part of the original “Sweet 16” lineup that launched Hot Wheels in 1968.

One of the coolest details on this casting is the black painted roof, designed to resemble the optional vinyl tops found on real muscle cars of the era. That feature is only found on Hong Kong-produced Custom Cougars, making it a highly collectible variation today.

Another fun early-production detail is the painted center “tooth” in the front grille. Some very early US and Hong Kong cars had this section painted to match the body color, but the extra production effort caused the detail to be quickly discontinued.

The olive color really gives this one a sharp late-60s muscle car look, and the tan interior pairs perfectly with the black roof. Always fun adding another original Sweet 16 piece to the display!
